JAMMING AT THE JAM

To play in a Jam you must place your name on the Jam board. Further requirements are listed below:

  • Jammers are expected to meet a competent standard of musicianship and be familiar with standard 3-chord, 12-bar blues songs.

  • CBS provides a lyric folder of classic blues songs if required.

  • If this is your first time, ask to speak to the Jam Session Coordinator to secure a place in a jam session.

  • Jammers are encouraged to have their names on the whiteboard by 1pm.

  • Late arrivals (after 1.30pm) cannot be guaranteed a spot in the Jam Session.

  • The coordinator will try to give everyone an opportunity to perform.

  • A rehearsed act may do a set as a band if it is prearranged at least 24 hours in advance of the jam by contacting the musicians representative via the contact us or the enquire now buttons.

NOTE: This is a Blues Jam so it is expected that blues orientated songs will be played.

JAM SESSION COORDINATOR

The Jam Session Coordinator is responsible for managing the stage and whiteboard of jammers who have nominated to perform. Their responsibilities for making each jam happen are as follows:

  • The Jam Session Coordinator determines the final line-up for each set and the whiteboard order of play, encourages discussion and negotiation between jammers to provide fair opportunity, maximum inclusion and, where possible, a varied mix.

  • They may ask jammers to adjust their volume accordingly.

  • The decision from the Jam Session Coordinator is final, including refusing jammers the right to play.

  • They may reduce or increase the set time depending on the number of jammers on the day.

THINGS TO PREPARE FOR YOUR JAM SESSION

BEFORE YOUR JAM SESSION

  • In most cases the vocalist decides on the songs, the key and tempo.

  • Acoustic guitars, special blues harp mics, keyboards etc should be plugged into the DI inputs provided at the front of the stage – ask the sound engineer to point them out if not sure.

  • Three vocal mics with foldback are provided. For special requests like a mic for a wind instrument or additional vocal mics – discuss before your Jam session with the sound engineer.

  • No-one is permitted to bring an amp onto the stage without checking with the Jam Session Coordinator prior to the start of the jam. Only amps that are mic’d or DI’d to the PA can be used.

DURING YOUR JAM SESSION

  • Each combination of jammers is required to do a set of NO more than 15 minutes.

  • A five minute changeover between sets is provided for and necessary for the smooth running of the jam sets. Therefore you should move quickly and with minimum fuss to set up your instrument in order to get maximum performance time.

  • When given an amp to use jammers should leave the settings as they are, except if they have asked beforehand. Amps are not to be turned up. (additional stage volume will be provided by the sound engineer via monitors if need be).

  • Jammers must take care of equipment belonging to the host band or supplied by the CBS.
