The Rod Mitchell Band hosts Canberra Blues Society’s March Pro Blues Jam.

Smokin Chicago Blues, Texas Bone Shakers, Mississippi Swamp Gurglers and Smooth Tennessee Whiskey Heart Wrenchers - Rod and the band deliver their very own, very colourful and very unique style and sound with heartfelt respect to the blues legends.

"The blues is a feeling, you can't get it out of no book. You can't write the blues on a piece of paper, you just feel the blues."  John Lee Hooker (1917-2001).

This band of seasoned bluesmen will take you away to places where the blues evolved from heartache and dispair to celebration, humour and wisdom.

"The blues is celebration, because when you take sorrow and turn it into music, you transform it." Odetta Holmes(1930-2008).

Rod Mitchell - AKA Howlin Mitch - Guitar / Vocals

"An absolute blues machine" - Phil Manning.

"If you were to blend swamp grooves, howlin vocals, guitar riffs that will get your foot tapping and your body moving, you would get Howlin Mitch! A man who brings incredible energy and vigor to all that he does!" -  Moruya Blues & Roots Festival.

"Mitch is more than just a fantastic song writer, he s a gifted performer bringing a powerhouse of energy, passion & talent!" - L.P Entertainment.

Paul (Paulo) Leeder - Bass

"Playing the blues is my first love. Blues is pretty broad when you get down to it - slow blues, jump blues, jazz blues, swing blues, electric blues, acoustic blues, Chicago blues... I'm not allergic to other genres; I just really love the blues in all its forms." - Paulo.

Paul Leeder is a talented & precise bass player - a product of years of experience both on stage & in the studio. A classic jammer who can jump in on any song & sound like he s been playing it for years.

Phil Evans - Drums / Vocals

With a wealth of experience as musician/vocalist, composer, sound engineer & media producer, Phil marks the start of his musical journey from his first paid gig at the age of 12. Since then he's performed with over 75 bands, orchestras & musical groups.

Classically, he's played as a percussionist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Opera Orchestra & the Victorian Opera Company, concurrently crossing the musical boundaries of pop, rock, blues, latin, punk, reggae, jazz, skiffle – achieving great success in all genres.

Duncan Bond - Keyboards

From an unusual background in African percussion, studying and performing for over a decade with some of Sydney s most notable world music artists, Duncan has only recently turned his musical talents to blues harmonica and keyboard.

Since starting this journey, a little under 5 yrs ago, Duncan s enthusiasm and unique rhythmic stylings have made him a valued member of the Sydney and Sapphire Coast blues 'jam' scene, where he thrives on the generosity of the community and the thrill of learning and growing his newfound craft.

The host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the Canberra region jamming together for a fabulous afternoon of live Blues music.
