Presidential Musing – September 2020

Hello once more,

May you all be safe and well.

Another Covidly quiet month has passed…..

The Friday Night events in the Keller have continued with good attendances. An additional one was scheduled for the 4th September. The Bluetone Specials Duo (myself & Matt Fitzgerald) played the last in this series of shows. It was another SOLD OUT show and a great night was had by all.

Some good news. Our Blues Jams are back! Though the main auditorium at the Harmonie German Club is only available for seated and ticketed functions up to 80 persons at present and there are no signs of this changing anytime soon. So the September Blues Jam will be run a bit differently to normal. Tickets must be pre-purchased through Humanitix or send an email to contact@canberrabluesociety.com.au for alternative payment options. CBS members $5 General $10. People must remain seated at all times unless using the restrooms, purchasing food or drinks or Jamming.

The Jam Workshop has now moved from the Keller to the auditorium where it will be more appropriate to accommodate jammers and their instruments. The first one back was held on Monday the 7th September with a record attendance. Next Workshop will be held on Wednesday 7th October.

Good to hear that Lone Wolf Promotions is up and running again with their Friday Night Live shows at The Austrian Club. Check out their Facebook page for upcoming gigs.

Once again a big thank you to all those who have renewed their membership so far.  Please remind anyone you know who hasn’t done this yet. Being a totally volunteer-run Not-For-Profit organisation CBS relies on active membership to continue its activities. Don’t forget anyone who renews their membership before the next Jam goes into the draw for a 3 string Blues Box Guitar from STGuitars.

Please consider nominating for or pressing others to nominate for committee positions coming up at the October Annual General Meeting. The society will not be able to continue if there are not enough office holders. Computer skills are highly beneficial.

Until next month

Steve Hartnett  – Acting President CBS
