Presidential Musing – September 2019

Hello CBS members and welcome to spring! Loving the warmer weather.

The Youth in Blues jam was a treat for all who went along. Host band, the Bundah Blues Band, made up of students from Narrabundah College were great to listen to. Small Town Afro from Goulburn performed the closing set which had everyone tapping their toes. Always great to see young talent coming through.

The Canberra Blues Society AGM is now slated to be on in late September or October due to a number of committee members being away. We have quite a few committee members leaving and will need to fill those positions in order to continue the CBS. This is very important! Not so much Uncle Sam, but we need you! If you would like to take a more active role in the CBS we have positions in media, graphic design, treasurer, membership and other roles. Please drop us an email or come see one of the committee members at the jam for a nomination form.

I heard the recent CBS event held a couple of weeks ago, the Candelo Blues Showcase was a ripper. And that young Charlie Bedford is a kid to keep your eye on.

I did manage to get to the Marvellous Hearts gig at the Austrian Club last Friday night. Heard Cap Bluetongue’s harmonica workshop in K2’s kitchen the following morning went well too. K2 said K1 was happily ‘harping’ after they all left, so maybe we’ll see K1 at a Jam Workshop with his new harmonica? J

We’re still looking for Oktoberfest volunteers. We’ve committed to running the Knuckles stall now as it’s an important fundraiser for CBS; but we need a helping hand from a few more volunteers to lighten the load. Please contact Kerry Scarlett on 0414 292 150 if you can do a shift or two over the weekend. Each volunteer gets a ticket for each shift worked to go in the draw for a fabulous prize pack. Also, if you work two shifts or more you get a free CBS t’shirt. How good is that? (See page 6 for details)
