This month we have fare-welled David Gilbert “Bucky” Buckmaster, musical entrepreneur, long time supporter and life member of the Canberra Blues Society, following a long and strong fight with illness.
Bucky’s influence on and support for all six kinds of live music (Country, Western, Rhythm, Blues, Rock, Roll and Jazz) in Canberra and well beyond is well known and his larger than life personality is unforgettable to anyone who knew him. He will be missed not just for what he did but for how he lived and how he connected with people.
The Canberra Blues Society will in due course (COVID permitting) afford him a suitable farewell event. Stay tuned.
At the last Committee meeting I was pressed into service as President because our last elected president, the mighty Dave McRae, had to resign due to increased work pressure arising from the current COVID situation.
Dave has been a great president and we will miss him in that role. Let’s hope he has time to join us on stage and thrash those drums again once the jams return.
Currently we are preparing for the possibility of a return to Jams in August and September. Host bands are lined up and we only await the starter’s pistol. The ACT Govt has delayed any further lifting of restrictions that were due to happen mid July, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Should the September jam go ahead, please note it has been postponed from the 20th to the 27th of September at the request of the Harmonie German Club.
In the meantime, we ran a couple of Friday night Keller Sessions with Moondog and Shane Pacey at the HGC. These were so popular we have booked the Keller every Friday up till 28 August. These shows are strictly limited to 28 people so if you are interested you must book & prepay.
Great to see that plans are under way for Bluesfest 2021.
Now, with all the upheaval with COVID we’ve slipped past the end of the financial year without our membership renewal reminder.
To entice you all to rejoin, we have a fabulous cigar box guitar (generously donated to us by STGuitars) to give away to a lucky member who renews their membership.
Keep safe friends and be kind to one another.
