Jam Rules

The Canberra Blues Society monthly blues jams have the following primary aims:

  • To encourage and promote blues music to the general community.
  • To provide a venue for young, amateur or part-time musicians to gain confidence and performance experience.
  • To showcase professional musicians to the general community to further their careers and assist in securing additional paid performances.
  • Above all – to encourage new friendships and have fun!

The CBS has a few rules for the conduct of its monthly jams.  Please make sure you read and understand these rules before you sign-up for the jam.  The Jam Manager is the absolute law for scheduling and jam behaviour on the day and can refuse musicians the right to play.

  1. Jammers must play predominately ‘blues’ music.
  2. Make sure you ‘sign-up’.  A ‘first in-first play’ principle will apply, however, priority will always be given to CBS members.  It’s your responsibility to ensure you get your name onto the ‘sign-up’ board’.  Bookings (Russ Lawrence – 0409 443 988) will be accepted up to the day before the jam.
  3. A Drum kit, an amp and 3 mics only will be provided.  You bring everything else.
  4. A standard set consists of at least 3 songs.  A longer set may be allowed, or if time permits, another set may be allowed after everyone else has done their thing.
  5. Bands or partial bands must receive approval from the Jam Manager and may be required to include other musicians.
  6. Complaints concerning scheduling from non-CBS members are not accepted.
  7. The Jam Manager’s decision is final, including refusing jammers the right to play.

Please Note:  Jammers are asked to warm up immediately prior to their set to minimise change-over times.

Rehearsed Acts

  1. Must book in prior to the day by contacting the nominated Jam Manager, to guarantee they perform as a nominated group (see 3 below).
  2. Must include at least 1 CBS financial member.
  3. If turning up on the day, without pre-booking, must be prepared to include other jammers, if asked.

Un-rehearsed Acts

  1. Must register on the day.
  2. Will be included in a scratch band consisting of a minimum of 4 musos and no more than 6.
