CBS Monthly Blues Jam hosted by Big Gumbo at 1PM
February 17, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
NOTE: START TIME IS 1PM
We’re kicking off the year with host band Big Gumbo – New Orleans blues and grooves served with spicy sides.
Take four seasoned musicians, add a selection of tunes from New Orleans’ finest artists (Dr John, The Neville Brothers, Jon Cleary, The Meters) sprinkle with some second line beats and serve with a side of Texas greats (Delbert, Albert, ZZ Top). Based in and around Canberra these boys aim to bring you that unique blues feel, made of ingredients from Africa, France and Spain, mixed and baked in the hot Louisiana sun and served in big helpings when the lights go down and the animal spirits come off the leash. Bring your dancing shoes cos that’s the point.
Ben Hoare – Guitar and Lap Steel – a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Australia with over 20 years’ experience covering live, session, TV and recording work, regularly performing as a side man for a number of high-profile acts and performing at events and music festivals throughout the country. Ben has recorded on award winning albums and featured on Foxtel’s CMC.
Geoff Bell – Drums: Geoff has played drums with artists as diverse as ARIA winner James Blundell, country recording artists The Sunny Cowgirls, Grant Luhrs, Col Finley and Paul Costa, and blues artists Kate Meehan, and PJ O’Brien – as well as high-profile singer/songwriter Paul Greene and blues guitar legend Phil Manning.
David Frost – Keyboards/Vocals: has been playing keyboards in Canberra Bands for over 30 years. These include “Blind Freddy” – blues, “Jealous Hand Band” – 70’s disco, “Midnight Express” – horn based soul and “Zoopagoo” – funk. Most of the 90’s was spent with the legendary Reggae and Dance music outfit “Ragga Jump”. Mainly a Hammond Organ specialist, he is also adept at Piano, Clavinet and Synthesiser.
Paul Kindermann – Bass/Vocals – founding member of blues outfit Blind Freddy (late 80s) disco powerhouse Jealous Hand (early 90s) duo, Sit Down Play and more recently Canberra’s Premier Country band, Blazing Boots – playing all over southern NSW.
The host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the Canberra region jamming together for a great afternoon’s entertainment. So bring your family, bring your friends and bring your dancing shoes.
